WHERE WE ARE GOING

PRE WRITING ARTIFACT— WHAT MY PLAN IS

  • While Doxology Bible Church does advertise is acceptance to every individual, there are still things that can be changed. Communities like this can never stop improving through outreaches and changes made within its communities. The social issues that this community tackles are very similar to those of many other churches (for example: aiding those who are in need of food and basic necessities, outreaches for at risk youth, and transformative rehabilitation experiences for those struggling with addiction), there are smaller, yet just as important things, that can be done to expose this community to more opportunities and learning experiences.

REVISION ARTIFACT — GOOGLE RESEARCH TO FURTHER SUPPORT MY MISSION

From the TCU Library database

From Doxology Bible Church's website:

  • "We hope you find a place where "No perfect people are allowed." In other words, you will be welcomed just as you are, yet encouraged to be transformed through the power of the Gospel."

PEER RESPONSE ARTIFACT — INTERVIEWS AND SITE VISIT

For my interviews, I chose to interview two separate individuals with whom I am friends with. They are in separate social circles, (relatively) different age groups, and were asked the same questions. Those questions are as follows:

  1. Do you feel that you are welcome within the church community?

  2. Do you think there is a possibility for more diversity in regards to race, gender, gender identity, and sexual orientation?

  3. What changes do you think should be made (no matter how big or small) in order to benefit the community at doxology?

  4. Would you recommend this community to others?

Alexis Robsinson, an African-American member of the congregation states the following:

  1. She does feel welcomed, however she feels that she had to work for it and has to continue working for it.

  2. "ABSOLUTELY"

  3. She feels as though gossip is prominent and a way to benefit the community at Doxology would to have less gossip spreading around the congregation.

  4. She does recommend this community, however she said that you need to have 'thick skin' in order to be a part of it.

Luke Savage, a Caucasian member of the congregation states the following:

  1. He does feel welcomed within the community.

  2. He says that there is always the possibility for more diversity.

  3. He believes that some changes would be good, especially more outreaches to high school kids.

  4. He highly recommends this community

SITE VISIT

I visit this place every Sunday at 10:30am. It is a large church and very modern compared to the churches that I am familiar with back home. The chapel has movie theater seats and the music sounds like pop songs you would hear on the radio. Doxology definitely caters to the younger generations with its modernized take on worship, making it appealing to the younger crowds. There's free coffee before service and the sermons are not politicized and try to remain neutral in 'controversial' topics.
